The Historic Forest of Dean is a relatively unknown and unspoiled area of great interest historically and geographically, with castles, abbey, caves, abandoned railways, forest and moor. Romans mined here, as the Freeminers still do. We will travel via M5 ( coffee stop ) and the original Severn Bridge to Historic Chepstow. Traffic permitting we will have a bit over two hours inChepstow giving you time to have lunch somewhere nearby and maybe view the castle, the historic Piory Church, or the fascinating local town museum. Then we will take a gentle 90 minute ride up the beautiful Wye Valley, with its view of Tintern Abbey, then into the centre of the forest with a commentary, before reaching the Dean Heritage Centre. The Museum gives a fascinating insight into the history and geography of the forest and its inhabitants. it aso has a tea room!
